Nov 24th marked the last performance for Heathers UK! Heathers is a huge part of my life and it’s so sad to see the last official run close.
If you haven’t heard of Heathers (probably because you live under a rock), it’s based on the 1988 dark comedy/cult film in which a nice girl (Veronica) gets sucked into a group of bullies. After meeting another outsider (J.D)who she thinks she can relate to, she ends up killing the most popular girl in school. This leads to everyone suddenly caring about suicide, and a chain of “suicides” staged by Veronica and J.D. Fed up with J.D thinking he’s above everyone while he’s killing everyone who bothers him, Veronica leaves him. This infuriates him, and he unleashes his new plan to blow up the entire school in the ultimate staged group suicide. Long story short, Veronica stops him and J.D is the only one who dies; the message we’re left with is to be kind to everyone, and accept your differences.
This intense story is topped off with an amazing score (including brand new songs in the UK run) so my heart is shattered to see the show close.
Fingers crossed for a Broadway revival! <3
